Puppy Care in Columbia, MO

Getting a new puppy can be exciting and, well, exhausting. We get it!

Creature Comforts understands the unique needs of puppies and their busy owners. Puppies cannot wait 8 hours for a potty break, and most workdays are longer than that. Whether you need help during your work day or are just overwhelmed by the chaos of your new little shadow, we will work with you to build a visit schedule that sets your puppy up for success, right in the comfort of your own home.

Why puppies need more than one visit a day

Here is the rule of thumb every new puppy owner learns fast: a puppy can hold their bladder roughly one hour for every month of age. A 3 month old puppy needs a break about every 3 hours. A workday away from home is 9 or 10.

That math is why we offer multiple visits per day for puppies. Many of our Columbia puppy families book two or even three short visits across the workday, timed to their puppy's age and crate schedule. As your puppy grows, we stretch the visits out with you, until one midday visit is enough and eventually your pup graduates to our regular dog walking schedule.

Consistent breaks are not just about avoiding accidents. They are how house training actually gets learned. Every successful trip outside on a predictable schedule builds the habit you are working so hard to teach on nights and weekends. We keep your routine going while you are at work, using your cues, your treats, and your rules.

A calmer alternative to puppy daycare and boarding

Daycare works for some dogs. For young puppies, it is often the wrong tool at the wrong time, and here is why families across Columbia choose in-home puppy visits instead:

Vaccinations come first. Most daycares require a full vaccine series, which means your puppy may not even be eligible until 16 weeks or older. In-home care lets your puppy stay safely in their own space during exactly the weeks you need the most help.

Group play is a lot for a little dog. A room full of adult dogs can overwhelm a young puppy, and a scary early experience can shape how they feel about other dogs for years. One-on-one attention builds confidence at your puppy's own pace.

Your routine stays your routine. Daycare runs on the facility's schedule. We run on yours: your crate setup, your feeding times, your potty spot, your training words. Puppies learn fastest when everyone is teaching the same lesson.

No drop-off, no pickup. Your puppy naps at home between visits instead of riding across town twice a day, and you skip two stops on an already full schedule.

What a puppy visit includes

Every visit is tailored to your puppy's age and your training goals, and typically includes:

  • A potty break at your designated spot, with praise and rewards on your system

  • Fresh food and water on your feeding schedule

  • Play, cuddles, and age-appropriate exercise

  • Crate breaks and resets done your way

  • Basic reinforcement of the cues you are teaching, like sit and come

  • Cleanup of any accidents, because they happen and that is okay

  • A full report card with photos in your app after every single visit

Your puppy's complete care profile lives in our Time to Pet software, so every member of our team follows the same instructions the same way, every time.

Ask us anything: free puppy guidance included

Our puppy experts are also happy to help in a consulting capacity. Ask us about our favorite toys and chews for teething, walking gear that fits a growing body, and the Columbia area trainers we know and trust. You do not have to figure out puppyhood alone, and there is no extra charge for picking our brains.

Frequently asked questions

How often should a puppy be checked on during a workday? Follow the hour-per-month rule: a puppy can typically hold their bladder about one hour per month of age. A 3 month old needs a break roughly every 3 hours, which usually means two to three visits across a full workday.

Is a puppy sitter better than puppy daycare? For young puppies, in-home visits are often the better fit. Puppies usually cannot attend daycare until their vaccine series is complete, group settings can overwhelm them, and in-home care keeps your house training routine consistent. Daycare can be a great option later, once your dog is older and confident.

Can you visit my puppy more than once a day? Yes. Multiple visits per day is one of our most common puppy schedules. We will help you build a plan around your puppy's age, crate routine, and your work hours, then adjust it as your puppy grows.

Do you help with house training? We reinforce the house training you are already doing. We take your puppy to your designated potty spot, use your cue words and rewards, and keep the schedule consistent, which is the single biggest factor in how quickly house training sticks.

How much does puppy care cost in Columbia, MO? Our puppy visits are $30 for 30 minutes, $40 for 45 minutes, and $50 for 60 minutes, with frequency discounts that bring 30 minute visits down to $28 or $26 per visit. Multiple daily visits count toward the discount.

When can my puppy start? As soon as you bring them home. We recommend scheduling your free meet and greet before your puppy arrives if you can, so care is ready to go from day one.
